After the last film titled BON VOYAGE, CHARLIE BROWN (AND DON’T COME BACK !!!) was released 35 years ago, Snoopy with Charlie and the Peanuts gang returned to greet their fans. No longer conventional animation, they are present in CGI. Uniquely, even though it is formulated with a computer, the images that are presented are like hand scratches, maintaining the identity of Charles M Schulz as the creator.

The film, entitled THE PEANUTS MOVIE, was directed by Steve Martino, the name behind the successful animation HORTON HEARS A WHO! and ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT. The story that was rolled out was very simple, namely Charlie’s (Noah Schnapp) attempt to win the heart of a red-haired girl.

For the size of a film targeting the children’s segment, what the scriptwriters offer is not complicated. They present a storyline with positive messages that are easy to digest. The animation performance is also very slick, detailed and fun to watch.

Unfortunately for viewers who are just adults, it will be quite difficult to love this film. What was presented was so flat, less intense, or no serious conflicts were raised. In some parts, Snoopy’s imaginary moments are also disturbing instead of entertaining because they seem to be presented as a patch for the story so that the duration runs long.

Beyond that, the presentation of Steve Martino and his team in reliving Snoopy’s story went well. Fans were successfully invited to reminisce when presented with memorable scenes while commemorating the 65th anniversary of the comic strip’s birth.
